SEO Tool of the Week: Google Keyword Planner

December 7, 2023
No matter how much you’re paying for ads, nothing will help your SEO if you don’t know what people are searching for in the first place. Understanding keywords and using them to your advantage is one of the most surefire ways to ensure good SEO (and maintain it). Once you identify what people are searching for, you’ll be able to integrate those words and terms into your ads and website and make sure that you end up high in the ranks of any search engine.

But how do you find the right keywords to use? With the help of Google Keyword Planner, you’re in luck. This tool from AdWords will improve your SEO in no time.

Why You Should Use It

1) This tool will help you generate keywords when you’re in the process of building a campaign. Just type in topics related to your products or services and the tool will provide a list of keywords that are most likely to help you.

2) This is also helpful when building on existing campaigns.

3) Once you find good keywords, you can save them to your account so you have them for future reference.

4) Click and cost performance forecasts will give you an idea of which keywords will be the most beneficial to you, how much your ads will cost per day and even which position you are likely to rank in a search engine.

How To Use It

Start by signing into your AdWords account. Go to the “Tools” tab and the Keyword Planner will help you start planning your next ad campaign in a snap. You’ll see a list of options starting with “Search for new keyword and ad group ideas” and it’s really as simple as that. Just enter the relevant information into the search boxes such as words and/or phrases about what you are advertising, a link to your website or a page on your website, and a relevant category on your product or services. Next, just hit “Get ideas” and you’ll be presented with a list of results.

Next, move onto the second option entitled “Get search volume for a list of keywords or group them into ad groups,” which is again pretty self-explanatory. From here, you enter the keywords you received from the list you generated and you’ll receive statistics on search volume and even data from competition.

Other options include getting traffic forecasts for a list of keywords, multiplying a keyword list to generate new keywords and getting click and cost performance forecasts. All in all, this is the keyword tool you need to be using if you want to boost your SEO (and do it the right way).
